Complete 3 applications of your typeface for critique next class. Print each idea at as close to 100% size as possible. Oversized elements should first be printed “to fit” and a second version should be a “cropped” version printed at 100% to get an idea of how your type is working at scale.

Post your project synopsis: a 1 to 3-paragraph narrative describing your project development: summarize your decisions in the design of your production; explain your formal and technical choices in relation to the concept; reflect on your process .

Project 04 HOMEWORK: Explore the following variables in your preliminary designs. Regular, narrow or wide settings (balanced, vertical, square). Uppercase letters, lowercase, both or unicase design. Ascender, cap- height, x-height, base-line and descender lines for you type. Varied or fixed letterform width. Fixed or variable spacing between the letters. Use graph paper to sketch out your ideas.

Discuss the integration of typographic and design systems and how to set up style sheets which reflect these systems. Demonstration of setting up a proportional system in InDesign. HOMEWORK: 
Post a response to the readings reflecting on what you have gained from them and how you are using the ideas they express to create a grid for your book.

Prepare a series of preliminary page spreads (margins, guides, and master pages) which explore the possibilities of the grid. Continue working on and refining your designs. Prepare at least 3 options for a text treatment/selection using 3 different typefaces.

Print these treatments out and trim to size for next class.
Post JPEGS of your initial ideas to your blog by next class.
